A Week in Sunny California

We spent December 8-15 in Palm Desert, CA in the Marriott Shadow Ridge Resort. My mom and step-dad gave us a getaway using their time share, so we were able to stay there thanks to them. The resort was absolutely beautiful, and it was exactly what I needed since we left the day after I finished all my finals. (Which, by the way, I have gotten all A's so far!) It was so much fun!

We drove there, so all of the first Saturday was mostly spent on the road. To make the drive more enjoyable, we listened to the audiobook "I Am Number Four."  Randy has been into audiobooks for a long time and had tried to get me to try it before. I was always resistant to try it. I love reading, and I thought that listening to a book couldn't possibly be as satisfying as reading it. Well, since we were going to be on the road so long I decided to try it so we could "read" a book together rather than me reading while he was bored. He proved me wrong. I absolutely LOVED listening to the books, and how the narrator brought the characters and the stories to life. We almost finished the book on the drive, just a couple hours left which we finished while we were in California. When we got there, we put all of our stuff in the hotel and headed over to relax in the hot tub for a bit before going to bed. On Sunday, we did some shopping and got groceries we would use during the week. I also got the book "Divergent" to read at the pool. We spent some time laying out by the pool and relaxing. We also took a walk around the resort and explored. It was beautiful!

 Lots of statues!

There was a golf course on the resort- much too pricey, though!

Cute bunnies everywhere!

On Monday, we went to Disneyland, which was about a 2 hour drive. We woke up early and got there as the park opened. It wasn't very crowded in the morning at Disneyland. We rode 9 rides in the first two hours. Then we went and got some lunch and headed over to California Adventure. We had a lot of fun at Disneyland and California Adventure together! I had never been during Christmas season, and it was cool because there were Christmas decorations everywhere and the Haunted Mansion was turned into the Nightmare Before Christmas. We also had an adventure while we were there, though. We stood in line for Soarin' Over California for about forty five minutes. We were about to get on the ride and were about to go into the theatre. We had perfect seats on the top row so we wouldn't see any feet dangling. However, right before we were about to get on was when Randy realized he didn't have his wallet. We both started panicking. All of our credit cards were in the wallet along with some cash. We would have no money for the rest of the trip. We probably wouldn't even have enough gas to get back to our hotel, and no way to fill up the car. Both of our ID's were in there as well. Our park tickets were in there as well, so if we left the park at all to try to find it we wouldn't be able to get back in. We immediately left the line because we wouldn't be able to relax and enjoy the ride knowing that the wallet was gone. We asked the ride attendant where to go and got pointed in several different directions of places we could check. We decided to go with the one that sounded the most reasonable and headed that direction, saying many prayers in our heads. We had to wait in a line of people before we got to the front. When we got to the front of the line, Randy described his wallet and the worker went back to look for it. We waited for about fifteen minutes until the worker came out with Randy's wallet. It still had all the cash and credit cards in it. Thank goodness for honest people in the world! The worker had Randy fill out an incident form and gave us a pass to go back into the front of the line for the ride. We were so relieved to have found the wallet! Overall, Disneyland was a lot of fun! It was very tiring though, so we made sure to get lots of rest and relaxation the following day ;)

Waiting for Astro Blasters to begin!

Randy beat me at both of the game rides- I guess his video games came in handy ;)

 At the "Alladdin" show!
We rode the Tower of Terror with Spiderman

 On the new Woody ride!

There were lots of Christmas trees!
The castle lit up for Christmas as well!

On Wednesday we went to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The tram went up a mountain and took us from 2,000 feet to 8,000 feet above sea level. As the tram went up, it rotated twice 360*. The views of the mountain and city below were breathtaking. When we were at the top, it was freezing! It is on average 40 degrees lower than it is in the valley, so it was in the 30-40s somewhere. It was also very windy. So we only stayed out there to take a few pictures, then waited inside for the next tram down. We went at the perfect time because it was light on the way up and dark on the way back, so we got to see it both ways. It was a lot of fun! Then we went out to dinner at Olive Garden afterwards.

 What a view!

It was very windy up there!

All of the other days of the trip we spent relaxing at the resort. There were 4 pools, many hot tubs, and a movie theatre where you could watch free movies. We planned to go golfing at a 9-hole course in Palm Springs on Thursday, but it ended up raining so we didn't get to go. We enjoyed much of our time reading books by the poolside and playing with a football or frisbee in the pool.

 We loved the hot tub!

We also played football in the pool!

We also enjoyed taking pictures around the resort on our last day there! The resort was so gorgeous and we wanted to take some pictures so we could remember it.

This picture would be SO cute if it weren't for the sunlight poking in!

Randy put a flower behind my ear. What a cutie he is.

He also climbed to the top of the waterfall

Overall, this was a great trip! I enjoyed spending a whole week with Randy without having to worry about homework, finals, classes, or work. It was fun to read/listen books together and talk about them as well! I love Randy so much and it was so fun to spend a week with him in sunny California before coming back to the snowy weather- and a nasty smell from a water leak in our house!

Yeah, we thought it would be a GREAT idea to turn off our furnace while we were gone. I mean, we weren't going to be there to use it, so it would be a good idea to turn it off and save money on the bills, right? Wrong. The pipe to our washer got frozen and burst and water got all over our hallway, into our bedroom and the second bedroom. Luckily, my father-in-law was checking on our house and bringing in our mail, and he noticed it and turned up our furnace before there could be any more damage and pipe damage. He also put out fans so when we got home the water was mostly dry, there was just a nasty mildew smell. It took lots of carpet cleaning- and a lot of baking soda- to get the smell out. We had to deal with it for almost a week, but now it is gone and our washer was a cheap fix. So it could have been a lot worse! I'm very glad that my father-in-law helped us out!

So now we are settled back in and have we have both spent this week back to work. Randy has had a crazy work week- he worked Mon-Thurs and is working the weekend as well. Luckily that means he will have all of next week off! I'm excited for spending lots of time with family over the next week for Christmas! (I started this blog post before Christmas anyways, but it took me a while to finish it with all the pictures! If you can't tell I'm behind... I'll probably do the Christmas and New Years post together) :)
